We traveled to Kutná Hora from Prague on our own and we advise you to definitely visit this small and cozy corner. Against the background of Prague, he wins a lot! There were almost no tourists, and we wandered alone through the beautiful streets. In places the city resembled Tallinn. This is where you can find that Old Town atmosphere that has disappeared from Prague!
We came to Kutna Hora for the Ossuary and the Cathedral of St. Barbara. We hardly knew about other sights, as they were of little interest to us. Here we talk about the places that we visited ourselves, as well as list the sights that tourists love. We provide practical information for each place.

Ossuary
A sight that is completely uncharacteristic for Europe. The Ossuary in Kutná Hora (All Saints Chapel) is partially under reconstruction, but they are allowed inside. You can take pictures without a flash. It is better to arrive early - there are almost no tour groups. We recommend picking up an information brochure at the checkout to find out interesting facts about this attraction. Take a walk also in the adjacent cemetery, it is picturesque.
Tickets: 90 CZK. You can buy combined: Ossuary + Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary = 110 crowns, if this is the Cathedral of St. Barbarians add - 185 CZK.
Opening hours: November - February from 9:00 to 16:00, April - September from 8:00 to 18:00 (Sun - from 9:00), March and October from 9:00 to 17:00.
How to get there: walk from the main railway station according to the signs, then at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary to the right. Or by tourist minibus for 35 CZK. Address: Starosedlecka, 55.
Cathedral of St. Barbara
Spectacular Gothic cathedral. It's beautiful and cold inside. You can take pictures. There were few tourists in November.
Tickets: 85 CZK.
Opening hours: In summer, from 9:00 to 18:00. Opening hours vary from month to month, so check the official website.
How to get there: the cathedral is located at the other end of the city relative to Kostnitsa (about 2.5 km). We walked from the railway station, exploring the city along the way, but you can take a tourist bus.
Tourist Bus. The ticket costs 35 CZK. The bus usually waits for tourists at the exit from the station in Kutná Hora and takes them to Kosnitsa / St. Barbarians / Center. Only departs if there are at least three passengers.
Baroque gallery and observation decks
To the Cathedral of St. Barbara is led a la Charles Bridge - a baroque gallery along the Jesuit College with sculptures (Barborska street). Further in front of the cathedral on the left you will see the chapel of the body of Christ (Kaple Božího Těla) - climb the stairs, a good view of the cathedral and the city opens. Then to the right of the cathedral, you will see a wide staircase - from there, too, a good view of the cathedral and the college.
Cathedral of saint jakub
Church of St. Jakuba (Kostel svatého Jakuba Staršího) is austere and beautiful on the outside, especially the doors. They did not go inside. There is an observation deck behind the cathedral. Address: Havlíčkovo nám. 84/7.
Old city
Traditional advice from us: just walk around the Old Town where your eyes will look. You can come across very interesting streets without tourists! So we found a quiet street. Klabalova. Looking for beautiful authentic streets is our favorite pastime in all cities.
What else to see in Kutná Hora?
- Czech Royal Mint (Vlašský dvůr). Address: Havlickovo namesti, 522.
- Silver Museum and Mine. Address: Barborska, 28/9.
- Gothic stone fountain. It is difficult to pass by - it is on the way to St. Barbarians. Address: Rejskovo náměstí.
- Plague Column (not far from Vaclavsky nam.).
- Stone house. Address: Vaclavsky nam. 183.
- Church of Jan Nepomuk. The statue of the saint looks beautiful against the blue sky and is very photogenic. Address: Husova, 14.
- Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Unremarkable on the inside, but pretty on the outside. Tourists spend a few seconds there. Address: Vitezna, 31.
From Kutná Hora, tourists go to the leby castle (Zamecka 1, Zleby), the Šternberk fortress and Kacinu.
Restaurants in Kutna Hora
After the walk, grab a meal at one of the restaurants in Kutná Hora. We advise U Zlateho Lva: not far from the train station, inexpensive and comfortable. It is located across the street from the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, five minutes from the Ossuary. Business lunch costs 95 CZK. In cold weather, you can warm up by the fireplace and drink mulled wine. Prices are lower than in Prague. We had lunch and dinner there.
Tourists are advised to have a bite to eat in the Organzza cafe and Café 21 in the center of Kutná Hora; you can have a hearty meal in Restaurace V Ruthardce or Barbora Restaurant & Penzion.
Excursions to Kutna Hora
Day trips to Kutna Hora with a visit to the Cesky Sternberg Castle are extremely popular from Prague. You can search for them in the city or order in advance on the website sputnik8.com. The cost of a bus and walking tour is 23 euros per person, it lasts 8 hours.
We prefer to travel on our own, but if you do not want to deal with the Czech transport system and plan your day carefully, it is better to take a guided tour.
